POET CAMP Registration

Poetry is language at its most distilled,
and its most powerful.”
-Rita Dove
Sometimes people ask if I offer courses specifically focused on craft, since these elements are more scattershot in Poet Camp’s thematic workshops. In those courses, I focus craft discussion in my comments and critiques from week to week. I realize that this relies on the poet to feel confident in drafting using these skills before we even begin!
So I’ve been paying attention to the questions people ask. The comments I make most often. The moments where I notice people hesitate when they talk about intent, and we’ll begin there.
In Craft Cafeteria: Essentials, we will look at 2-3 poems each session. I’ll share a few craft thoughts, and make some observations about each individual poem, then I’ll share two prompts which focus specifically on that skill. We’ll write together a little bit, and do a little meta discussion. You’ll leave with the beginnings of two drafts each session.
Each session will also include time for group discussion and observations, questions and recommendations.
*This is a LIVE offering via Google Meet. Sessions will be recorded! If you’re unable to attend, you’ll still receive materials for that session, along with the handouts and prompts. Everyone registered will be invited to share at our read-around on Friday.
