Memorization Aides
I believe it’s important to have poetry’s presence in my everyday life.
When censorship and book bannings abound, memorized poems cannot be taken.
These are a small part of the legacy I carry from the poets I admire most.
I’ve repeated their lines (sometimes only in half-remembered fragments) in traffic, on solitary snowshoe treks, in the grocery store and in the garden.
They are a delight in the best of times, and a balm in the worst.
A poetic pericardium, protecting my heart, a membrane made from this web of words.
Keeping me alive.
Keeping us connected.
They’re yours, too! Help yourself!
