Follow the Yellow Brick Road: Poems Inspired by the Wizard of Ox

with Susan Roberts

8 Weeks. Sept 16 – Nov 10 2026

Asynchronous, Wet.Ink

$400 *limited seats* include feedback OR $325 without feedback

We’re off to see what work awaits, guided by Dorothy and her companions! In this class, we’ll be using a variety of Ozian perspectives to investigate themes of wonder, friendship, displacement, identity and desire, and especially of journey and transformation. In addition to the original book, each week you’ll find links to videos, poems and a few articles, but the main work here will be to use Oz as a place for exploration in your own writing. Each week we’ll write new poems from a prompt linked to Baum’s masterpiece, and many adaptations of these travels. You’ll be invited to share your thoughts and the work they inspire with classmates, and for light instructor feedback if you choose. (10 seats with feedback available. General seats do not include instructor feedback.) By the end of class, you’ll have several new drafts, a few new ways to write your way home, and a renewed sense that you had the power all along.
